Hospital Life

Hospital Life | Cystic Fibrosis Unit | Consultant / CF Nurse | Chemist

Crumlin Children's Hospital | Limerick Hospital

Personally, I feel the title says it all-CF is a life in/around and sometimes consumed by the HOSPITAL!!!

There are days when I feel that the hospital controls our lives. Normal checkups every month, reviews every week when Hannah is on meds, blood tests “pre the 3rd and the 8th dose” (to ensure that there is no build up of the iv drugs in Hannah’s system) during the course of those meds, x-rays to look for changes in the infection in her lungs, dropping sputum samples into laboratories etc etc! hannah-crumlinThere are also physio appointments to attend every 4-6wks depending on how well or sick she is. Also, we attend the dentist on a regular basis, to make sure the teeth are doing ok after all the oral antibiotics and IV drugs. So to say we see the inside of a lot of hospitals and a clinic is an understatement. But the thing that makes the whole experience bearable (aside from the trip to Bunratty for the kids after regular checkups!) are the staff in the Unit and hospital in general. Be it the security guard in the car park or the woman who brings the dinners to the wards, they all contribute in some way to an easier life.
